Spraakklanken (The Sound of Speech) is one of the outcomes of a wider research about participatory poetry. We collaborated with Amsterdam’s city poet Gershwin Bonevacia to look at ways in which the reader can be involved in the work of the writer.

Spraakklanken focuses on the performance of poetry. It’s about unity, division and communication. About subtext. What is carried within a voice? During the Dutch Design Week of 2021, the first physical installation was presented at Spoor K. The installation invited people to perform one of four sentences in a short (Dutch) poem, written by Gershwin. It resulted in a continuously growing collection of anonymous voices reciting the poem.
